Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has appointed the former chief secretary Ajeya Kallam as his principal advisor. Ajeya Kallam will have cabinet rank and would be leading the secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office. He will also be advising all the departments.
Ajeya Kallam who was retired as the chief secretary in 2017 when N Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister.
His appointment came as surprise as Jagan Mohan Reddy had been extremely against the Naidu government, which lost its position in the recently-held assembly election in Andhra Pradesh.
Ajeya Kallam will be in this position for three years with a monthly salary of Rs 2.5 lakhs.
Kallam is a 1983-batch IAS with a post-graduation degree in Agriculture and Masters in Business Administration from Australia. He has over 30 years of service record.
He had previously handled many important assignments in the Government of India as well as in the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
He also served as executive officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and held other prestigious positions as the chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Visakhapatnam, and had been the chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
The government will provide facilities like travel allowance, dearness allowance, government vehicle, and accommodation to Kallam along with nine office staff.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress party secured a thumping victory in the assembly and the Lok Sabha elections. While YSRCP won 151 seats in 175 member-assembly. It also won 22 out of 25 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
