In the latest trend, Akhilesh Yadav is leading over Nirahua at Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat by more than 58,000 votes.
At the time of updating this copy, Akhilesh Yadav is leading by 58,861 votes Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua.
Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency has a dominance of Yadav and Muslim voters. The Yadav and Muslim candidates have dominated the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat in the last 30 years. Nirahua is a Bhojpuri film star. The BJP fielded him against Akhilesh Yadav also to counter Akhilesh Yadav’s appeal among the Yadav community. A total of 15 candidates were in the contest in the Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency.
Akhilesh Yadav is the second president of any political party to have filed nomination from Azamgarh. On both the occasions, the Samajwadi Party president contested from Azamgarh.
In 2014, then SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav had defeated Ramakant of the BJP while Shah Alam of the BJP had finished third. This time, the BSP and the SP are in alliance for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Rashtriya Lok Dal of Ajit Singh is also part of the grand-alliance against the BJP in the state.
