Bhopal election results 2019: Victory of dharma, says Pragya Singh Thakur

The Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency is the centre of attraction in the Lok Sabha election in Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP lost power to the Congress after 15 years in 2018.

Pragya Singh Thakur, BJP candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate, was ecstatic with the trends from the centre of counting of votes suggesting that she was well ahead of her nearest rival Digvijaya Singh of the Congress.

She said her victory of Digvijaya Singh, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, would be a “victory of dharma” in Bhopla Lok Sabha constituency.

“People have shown faith in me. I thank them for reposing trust in me. It will be a victory of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (impiety),” Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur said in her brief interaction with mediapersons in Bhopal with her supporting shouting chants of “Jai Shree Ram” (victory to Lord Ram).

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is an accused in Malegaon blast case. The trial is still in progress and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is out on bail after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) gave her clean chit. The court, however, had refused to accept the closure of case against her in the Malegaon blast case. Six people had died in this Maharashtra town in 2008.

Bhopal Lok Sabha seat has been a BJP stronghold in Madhya Pradesh. No other party has won Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in the last 30 years.

The Congress’s decision to nominate Digvijaya Singh from Bhopal came as a surprise to many political pundits, who suggested that it was the result inner party rivalry. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh are said to be rivals in the party for dominance over party organisation in the state, where the Congress got back to power after 15 years of BJP rule.

Bhopal went to polls on May 12, when the votes were cast for the second last phase of the Lok Sabha election.
