The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s ‘Varsha’ bungalow a defaulter after water bills were not paid. The total amount of the bill pending is around Rs 7,44,981, according to BMC.
Apart from Fadnavis, names of 18 other Maharashtra ministers are also in the list of defaulters, after they did not clear the pending water bill dues.
Among those ministers in the list of defaulters are — Sudhir Mungantiwar, Vinod Tawde, Pankaja Munde, Ramdas Kadam and Eknath Shinde.
On Monday, the Mumbai PWD department issued a statement over the controversy of pending water bills. “Water bills of CM and other ministers’ residences were paid in November 2018. But there were certain discrepancies found in the earlier bills and the ones received in May 2019. The payment procedure was hence kept on hold. After tallying, the dues are being paid off immediately.”
“The water supply dept and the PWD are in charge of govt bungalows and work in coordination. It’s not just the ministers who stay in these official residences, there is supporting staff that also resides here. The bill’s are issued in the name of the official Bungalow and not individual. So it wouldn’t be right to say that a particular person has defaulted the bills,” the statement read.
